Child Counseling
We approach every child and family with empathy and compassion, with the understanding that everyone is doing their best. We are passionate about supporting children who are struggling socially, emotionally or behaviorally and can help them build skills to navigate these challenges. Counseling can help children to self-manage big emotions, lower anxiety and depression, uncover areas for growth and healing and help you feel confident in parenting your child.
It is normal for children to have big emotions and to need help developing social emotional skills. We take a child-centered-approach to care, focusing on their individual needs to provide them with a solution which will help them thrive and use healthy coping strategies. We use an integrative, individualized approach, utilizing play-based therapy, mind-body connectiveness and CBT to provide your child a safe space to process their thoughts and feels and develop strategies they can use for the rest of their life. In addition, we work on building children’s social skills, problem solving and coping skills toolboxes with personalized, engaging materials and lessons.
Why Play-Based Therapy?
Play allows children to communicate with the world around them, manage their emotions, build relationships, and transform into healthy adults – using a language they understand. Play-based therapy and allowing for creativity has been proven to increase self-expression, self-regulation, self-awareness and self-efficiency. Play minimizes children's stress levels, enhances their connections to others and boosts confidence in all areas of life.
Beginning with a play-based model helps children to build a trust and rapport with their counselor, feel more comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings and helps to build a therapeutic relationship with their provider. In turn, this encourages the child to be more receptive to feedback and openness to learning new social and emotional regulation skills.
