Adolescence Counseling
Teenage years can be rocky, for both teens themselves and their families. Parents often notice changes occurring in their adolescent’s mind, body, and spirit. Along with navigating new social dynamics, big life changes and more demanding academics, teens also become more aware of family situations. Often during this time teens are needing additional support to expand their understanding of themselves and cope with their changing world. The social and mental health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and navigating a digital world have further compounded these developmental issues in teenagers.
It is very important that teens have a space in which they are able to process their experiences, and express their emotions knowing they are safe to do so. When working with teens I look to create that secure confidential space, while also helping them to advocate for themselves and communicate to parents. Even teens with the most present and supportive adults benefit from having a safe space outside of their social and family circles to figure out what they are feeling, who they are, and how handle conflict.
Using an individualized, integrative approach, including CBT, talk therapy and social-skill building , teens will be able to explore their internal worlds freely without judgment, and receive support on how to be their healthiest selves. When it is difficult to find the right words, creative expression and play-based therapy can also be used during sessions to process through difficult situations and feelings. We work alongside each teen to develop healthy coping skills that will become strategies in times of distress.
Parent coaching & family sessions are available as needed. Collaboration with the school (with consent from the teen and parent) is also included through a comprehensive model of care.
